(You’ll find this page is a bit of a work in progress. Do drop in again soon)

Writing is work just like any other occupation. Some days are a grind, some pass in a whirl because the words fly onto the page. It’s a job, even though—perhaps because—you love it.
Text Box: Good to Know:

When training horses you start out rewarding every little effort the horse makes in the right direction. Once the horse has got it you reward most of the time he does it correctly, but not all the time. Finally, once the skill is well established, you intermittently reward just to maintain the enthusiasm.

The reason? If you reward the horse for every little effort the horse will begin to actually make less effort. The same applies to writing.

When you first start out, writing anything at all is something to be celebrated and rewarded. But once you have more experience, set your goals a little higher all the time, so you don’t fall into the trap of being rewarded or congratulated for producing less and less. Writers need to write. Lots.
